The Issue
Subler is a free Mac OS X app to Mux video, audio, chapters, subtitles and closed captions tracks from mov, mp4 and mkv as well as to edit metadata and create tx3g subtitles tracks, compatible with all Apple’s devices (iPod, AppleTV, iPhone, QuickTime).
After updating to Mavericks (OS X 10.9), when trying to convert Audio AC3 to AAC, Subler just stopped working saying “Something went wrong with the audio converter”.
How to Fix
The similar issue that exists in Mountain Lion now continues to bring inconvenience to Mavericks users. The solution to solve “Subler Audio Converter can not be initialized under Mountain Lion” provided by TechiSky benefits lots of Mountain Lion users. The solution that works on Mountain lion can still work on Mavericks to solve “Something went wrong with the audio converter” under OS X 10.9 Mavericks, reported by TechiSky readers.
Both issues under Mountain Lion and Mavericks are related to a52codec, the ac3 core audio component that is bundled with Perian.
Step 1: Download and install the latest Perian
Step 2: Donwnload the a52codec.component
Step 3: Unzip A52Codec
Step 3: Unzip A52Codec
Unzip it. It should replace the one in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components or ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components (the Library folder in your Home folder).
Step 4: Select “multi-channel output” in Perian preferences.
